Paul Sherwin

Senior Leader

Hi, I am married to Sally and we have three children: Bethany who is 21 and married to Josh and now lives in Morley near Leeds; Joe who is 18 and is studying Materials engineering at Sheffield Hallam University; and Sam who is 16 and studying for his GCSE’s. As well as being senior leader at church I am also the lead worker with Synapse Youth Work Project in our home town of Leek and the surrounding areas. Synapse is a Christian youth work provider that mostly works in schools delivering lessons, assemblies, lunchtime clubs etc all with a Christian theme. I have a qualification in Applied Theology and Youth Work from St. John’s College in Nottingham. My Passion is for mission and to see the church fully mobilised into all its potential so it can impact our community with the good news of Jesus and extend His kingdom.

Alan Howard

Hi, I’m Alan Howard and married to Sandra and we have three grown sons. I serve as an evangelist and elder in The Gateway Church. I was saved and filled with The Holy Ghost in 1982 out in Northern California and radically changed by Jesus Christ. I knew that my years of roaming and searching were over and I headed back to the UK and started attending a Pentecostal church down in Kent. There I would be asked to preach and before long asked to run a small children’s club at the church on a Friday evening, almost from the moment of my conversion I was aware of the calling on my life as an evangelist. After two years study at I.B.T.I (International Bible Training Institute) down in Sussex, The Lord called me to Leek, Staffs, to manage a Christian coffee shop which I did for a couple of years where we as a small team of volunteers shared the gospel with those that visited the cafe and also preached on the streets and gave out tracts. Over the years I have had some thrilling, unusual and at times scary experiences as I have travelled to a number of countries fulfilling “The Great Commission.” Including Brazil, Pakistan, India, Indonesia and a number of European countries I am at home both in the pulpit and out in amongst the public proclaiming the gospel of Christ. My vision and desire is to see His church reach its full potential and maturity, rising up as the Bride of Christ in this end time revival. I dream of seeing The Bride of Christ fulfilling her mandate of taking The Gospel to the whole world. These days I sense Gods leading for me to focus on certain countries in Europe as I know He is going to bring His Holy Fire among us.

David Smith

I became a Christian whilst at University and, during the summer break, travelled to Italy with Operation Mobilisation. I joined their ships Logos and Doulos, and spent five years visiting many countries and encouraging local churches. I’ve been married to Rachel for 30 years and we have two adult children and three grandchildren (so we are childminding regularly!) For twenty years I worked in a Day centre for adults with learning disabilities – many of whom have multiple and profound disabilities. I am now semi-retired, which is ideal for my eldership responsibilities. I’m involved in Bible teaching and corporate prayer on a regular basis , and my wife and I lead Worship together.
